US Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District Multiple Award Task Order Contract: 6500 Block Street – Repair Pavement and Drainage
About this Project
Best Management Practices were utilized throughout the design-build project, including the development of the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, and the demolition and installation of new curbs and gutters critical in establishing the new elevation for the roadways, storm water drop inlets and adjacent sidewalks. Road closures were coordinated with the Fort Knox Provost Marshall and traffic control operations were closely managed to reduce impact to the installation and ensure safety. Additionally, the installation of new six-foot-wide by 4-inch thick reinforced concrete sidewalks was performed in conjunction with the installation of the new asphalt pavement. Final grading and landscaping activities were performed once construction of all concrete sidewalks was complete. Site restoration activities included importing of approximately 1600 tons of soil, grading to ensure positive drainage, and placement of approximately 1 acre of sod and approximately 6 acres of seed and straw.
This project’s primary challenge was inclement weather requiring AACON to consistently modify the sequence of the project schedule and restructure manpower and equipment resources. Despite performing majority of the work during winter months and the impacts resulting from inclement weather, the 6500 Block Streets Task Order Contract was completed under budget, with zero recordable accidents and ahead of schedule.
